Tree Well Renovations
Infrastructure improvements for the surface streets within and surrounding the Contra Costa Centre included removing existing tree grates and damaged pavement around 84 tree wells. The Contra Costa Centre’s goal in the tree well improvements was to enhance pedestrian safety and the health of established trees by removing surrounding surface pavement and to provide a more uniform street tree sidewalk treatment within the Contra Costa Centre. With the assistance of a certified arborist, Kluber + Associates inspected and rated the health of 84 trees on the project. With the arborist’s report, extensive photo-documentation and the design of a unique tree well aeration and watering system, our office created a report which was used by the CCPWD within the CCC Infrastructure Improvement specifications as the plans, details and specifications for the tree well improvements. Our plans and specifications included air excavation for the root zone area of mature trees and details for perforated pipe installation within the root zone, and the installation of decomposed granite as a finished sidewalk surface. These improvements will be implemented in 2013.

Sidewalk Extension
Infrastructure improvements for the surface streets within and surrounding the Contra Costa Centre included improving pedestrian access at the corner of Treat Boulevard and Oak Road. Existing conditions included a 12” curb, mounding turf area with mature street trees, storm drain inlets and utility vaults. With the assistance of a certified arborist, Kluber + Associates conducted a field survey and established sensitive root zone areas for the existing trees. To protect the health of the existing mature trees we created a unique sidewalk detail with foam underslab to accommodate the proposed sidewalk alignment within the constrained right-of-way. These improvements will be implemented in 2013.
